Spotlight on...

Each week, I would like to focus on a North Shore community and provide links of interest. I will include fun or quirky facts, links to history and information about each area. Have fun exploring the North Shore!

This week I am focusing on Swampscott, the town I grew up in. It is a small town, about 3 square miles in area, which is steeped in history and has been home to several famous and important people.

The next time you eat a peanut butter and Fluff sandwich, think of Swampscott. Although the Fluff factory is located in Lynn, H. Allen Durkee and Fred L. Mower, both Swampscott residents, and World War I veterans cooked candies in their kitchen and sold them door to door to residents in the town. They went on to form the company known today as Durkee-Mower.

Follow the link to explore the unique beauty, history and the life residents lead in my hometown of Swampscott.
